Who This Comparison Is For

The Qi4D replaced the Qi35 for 2026 and won MyGolfSpy Most Wanted — TaylorMade’s first win in that test in several generations. The Qi35 Max is still on sale, and still $200 cheaper. This page is unusual for us: every other comparison here starts with launch monitor numbers for both clubs, because we hit both. We have not hit the Qi4D. So what follows is the verified spec and award difference on one side, our own measured results on the other, and a straight answer about whether the extra $200 is worth it.

🏆 Winner: TaylorMade Qi35 Max

The Qi35 Max wins here on the only basis we are willing to rank on: it is the driver we have hit, and it costs $200 less. The Qi4D won MyGolfSpy Most Wanted 2026, which is a stronger independent result than the Qi35 ever posted, and it may well be the better club. We have not put it in play, so we are not going to tell you it beats something we measured.

What Actually Matters for Weekend Golfers

For the golfer shooting 85-95, the honest framing is this. You are not choosing between two sets of numbers — you are choosing between a club with a strong independent test result and no data from us, and a club with our data and a lower price. If you want the newest head and the Most Wanted badge, the Qi4D is a defensible buy; TaylorMade also moved to a two-year cycle with it, so it stays current longer than the annual releases did. If you want the club we measured across roughly 200 balls and six rounds, that is the Qi35 Max, and the $200 you keep buys a fitting, which will do more for your dispersion than either head will.

What we measured, and what we did not

Our Qi35 Max ranking comes from roughly 200 balls over four range sessions and six rounds, hit against the other drivers on our forgiveness page. That is where the 4.8 comes from.

The Qi4D has not been through any of that. It is too new. The independent result we are leaning on is MyGolfSpy’s 2026 Most Wanted driver test, which the Qi4D won — their testing, not ours, and we are crediting it to them rather than dressing it up as our own.

That is the whole asymmetry on this page, and it is worth being blunt about it: a club we have not hit does not get a rating from us, however good its independent numbers look.

What actually changed in the Qi4D

TaylorMade re-shaped the head for aerodynamics and changed how the carbon face curves, with the stated aim of holding spin steadier on strikes away from centre. The hosel is adjustable and Golf Galaxy stocks it in 8.0°, 9.0° and 10.5° with four shaft options.

The other change is not about the club at all: TaylorMade moved to a two-year driver cycle with this head. If being one generation behind bothers you, that alone is worth something — the Qi4D should stay the current model for longer than the Qi35 managed.

Note the loft range starts at 8.0°. That is a lower floor than most game-improvement heads offer, and it is a hint about who TaylorMade expects to buy it.

Who should buy the Qi35 Max

Buy the Qi35 Max if you would rather have the club with our data behind it, or if $200 is real money to you — which for most weekend golfers it is.

It is still sold new, it is still a current-enough head that shafts and fittings are easy to find, and the InertiaGene moveable weight gives you a draw or fade bias the Qi4D does not advertise. For a golfer who fights one specific miss, that adjustability is more useful than a newer face.

Who should buy the Qi4D

Buy the Qi4D if you want the current Most Wanted winner and the newest face technology, and the price difference does not change your year.

It is also the better choice if you expect to keep a driver for three or four seasons: the two-year cycle means it will be the current model for longer, which matters for resale and for not feeling behind.

What we cannot tell you is whether it is more forgiving for you than the Qi35 Max. Nobody can tell you that from a spec sheet. If you are spending $649.99, get fitted.

Winner & Full Verdict: TaylorMade Qi4D Driver vs TaylorMade Qi35 Max

We are calling this for the TaylorMade Qi35 Max, on price and on the fact that it is the one we measured. That is a deliberately conservative call. The Qi4D won MyGolfSpy Most Wanted 2026 and is very plausibly the better driver — TaylorMade had not won that test in several generations, so it is not a small result. But our job here is to tell you what we know, and what we know is the Qi35 Max: 4.8 out of 5, roughly 200 balls, six rounds. If the Qi4D goes in our bag, this page changes and we will say so in the update log. Until then, the cheaper club is the one we can stand behind.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Qi4D worth $200 more than the Qi35 Max?
On independent testing, the Qi4D has the stronger result — it won MyGolfSpy Most Wanted 2026 and the Qi35 never did. Whether that is worth $200 to you depends on how much you play. For a golfer playing most weekends who keeps a driver several seasons, the newer head and the two-year product cycle make a reasonable case. For an occasional golfer, the $200 is better spent on a fitting.
Have you tested the Qi4D?
No. It is too new. Our Qi35 Max rating comes from our own testing; the Qi4D result we quote is MyGolfSpy’s, credited to them. We do not rate clubs we have not hit, which is why the Qi4D carries no score on this site.
Is the Qi35 Max discontinued?
No. It is superseded by the Qi4D but still sold new, currently $449.98. Being one generation behind is the reason it is cheaper, not a sign anything is wrong with it.
Does my Qi35 shaft fit the Qi4D?
TaylorMade has used a consistent tip adapter across its recent driver generations, so a shaft from a recent TaylorMade driver will normally fit. Check with a fitter before buying a shaft on that assumption — adapter changes do happen between generations, and we have not verified this one on a Qi4D head ourselves.
Where can I buy the Qi4D?
Golf Galaxy stocks it at $649.99, verified in stock on 21 September 2026. TaylorMade drivers are also sold through Amazon and other retailers; our link goes to Golf Galaxy because that is where we confirmed the listing.
