SkyTrak+ Review — Tested by a Weekend Golfer

The SkyTrak+ is for golfers building a dedicated home simulator. It excels in controlled indoor environments with consistent lighting and a permanent setup. Best for: serious home simulator builders, golfers who practice 3+ times per week indoors, and data-focused players who want photometric accuracy for fitting and ball comparison. It is NOT for: outdoor-only practice (photometric cameras struggle in sunlight — use the Garmin R50), portable use (it needs a power connection), or golfers who want basic distance data without the simulator investment (the R10 does that for $550).

Ball speed was within 0.3 mph of my Launch Pro baseline on 96% of shots — essentially identical. Spin rate was within 100-150 rpm, which is fitting-grade accuracy. The club data upgrade in the Plus model added attack angle (within 0.5 degrees of the Launch Pro) and club path (directionally accurate for diagnosing over-the-top vs inside-out). The accuracy is fitting-grade for ball speed and spin; club data is useful for swing diagnosis but not precise enough for fitting decisions. The SkyTrak+ photographs the ball at launch using two cameras, measuring ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, spin axis, and side spin directly. The addition of club data in the Plus model means you get attack angle and club path — data the original SkyTrak lacked.

This is where the SkyTrak+ shines. It works natively with WGT, E6 Connect, TGC 2019, and GSPro — the broadest software compatibility of any monitor at this price. Shot response time is under 2 seconds, and the data overlay is clean and readable. I run GSPro as my primary simulator software — the course library is enormous and the community keeps adding content. Shot response time is roughly 1.5 seconds from ball strike to seeing the shot on screen. I also tested E6 Connect (better graphics, fewer courses) and TGC 2019 (best course recreation). The SkyTrak+ has optional subscriptions: Game Improvement Plan ($99/year) adds shot history and club comparison, and Play & Improve Plan ($199/year) adds WGT simulation courses. After 50 sessions, the SkyTrak+ is the best indoor simulator monitor I have used. The photometric accuracy gives me data I trust for ball comparison and swing changes, and the GSPro integration makes winter practice genuinely enjoyable. The trade-off is clear: it is indoor-only in practice (sunlight kills the cameras), and the total investment with software and enclosure pushes $4,000.
